KANU: EJIMAKOR COUNSELS NIGERIA ON IMPLEMENTING UN ORDER

Kanu: Ejimakor Counsels Nigeria On Implementing UN Order

By Adadainfo

Barr Aloy Ejimakor, the special counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Monday, advised the federal government on how to implement the order of the United Nations for the immediate release of the IPOB leader.

Kanu is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, which is proscribed in Nigeria. He is currently facing trial at a Federal High Court, Abuja, on charges pertaining to alleged running of a proscribed group, jumping bail, and treason.

Kanu was arrested in Kenya and forcefully brought to Nigeria in a manner which allegedly violates international laws because he travelled to Kenya as a British citizen.

An Abia High Court, however, ruled against the federal government on the charge of jumping bail following a suit by Kanu’s special counsel, Barr Ejimakor. The court also awarded damages against Nigeria.

Ejimakor’s advice to the federal government followed a United Nations’ order on July 20, 2022 to the FG to release Kanu immediately.

Bruce Fein, Kanu’s international counsel, revealed the resolution of the UN in a tweet. According to him, “I just received opinion by Working Group of UN Human Rights Council demanding immediate unconditional release of MNK and reparations for serial violations of internationally guaranteed rights by Nigeria and Kenyan governments. Stand by for full opinion.”

Ejimakor counselled the FG via his Twitter handle that, “The removal of Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya amounted to extraordinary rendition. The appropriate remedy would be for the government of Nigeria to release Mr Kanu immediately and accord him an enforceable right to compensation in accordance with the international law.”

The federal government is yet to formally respond to the order.
